I have always been an escapist reader. From fantasy to historical fiction, my favorite books have transported me from my life—providing me with the adventure and romance that I crave. I’m a lover of series, specifically, because they offer a longer, more immersive experience. As a writer, I hope to offer my readers the same respite from reality that my favorite series have offered me, and I’m publishing my completed five-book series, The Raek Riders series all at once in an effort to do just that. They will be available March 19th, 2024, ready for escapist readers to binge from start to finish.
She will play many roles for her king: spy, interrogator, even weapon. But what if she wants to be a hero?
Ordinary and lonely kitchen maid, Meera Hailship, volunteers to feed a dangerous creature imprisoned at the palace. Her impulsive decision could end in disembowelment, but against all odds, she survives, striking an unexpected bargain with the deadly creature and an even more unexpected friendship. Meera’s fondness for the feathered, fire-breathing beast called a raek will force her to choose between her king and her conscience.
To rid the raek of his iron muzzle and help his mysterious—and handsome—rider, Meera will have to barter a man’s life, manipulate the king, and play with fire—raek fire, that is. But when doing what’s right is also treason, the consequences could be deadly…
Set in medieval Russia, The Winternight Trilogy is sure to transport you out of your current location into a land of snow and ice, rich with fairytale lore.
What I remember most about these books is the captivating scenery—I was completely drawn into the enchanted forest and harsh, winter wonderland detailed within. Vasya was a strong, female character that I could root for, and I heartily enjoyed coming of age with her and fighting her battles.
These books are best enjoyed on a blustery winter’s day under a plush blanket with a cup of hot chocolate.
_____________________________ Beware the evil in the woods...
In a village at the edge of the wilderness of northern Russia, where the winds blow cold and the snow falls many months of the year, an elderly servant tells stories of sorcery, folklore and the Winter King to the children of the family, tales of old magic frowned upon by the church.
But for the young, wild Vasya these are far more than just stories. She alone can see the house spirits that guard her home, and sense the growing forces of dark magic in the woods. . .
I first read The Inheritance Cycle in middle school. It was my introduction to high fantasy, and I relished joining Eragon on his adventures into a world of dragons, elves, and dwarves.
Fast forward quite a few years, and I listened to the audiobooks with my husband. This is a series that can be enjoyed by a wide range of ages and was worth repeating. I especially recommend the audiobook for the voice of the dragon, Saphira, and the pronunciation of the dwarfish and elvish languages.
It was this series that inspired me to escape into the dragon-riding daydream that became my first series as an author.
When poor farm boy Eragon finds a polished stone in the forest, he thinks it's a lucky discovery. Perhaps, he will be able to buy his family food for the winter.
But, when a baby dragon hatches out of the stone, Eragon realises he's stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.
His simple life is shattered, and he's thrust into a perilous new world of destiny, magic and power. To navigate this dark terrain, and survive his cruel king's evil ways, he must take up the mantle of the…
Lovingly referred to as Acotar by many, this series was my introduction to new adult fantasy, which changed my life.
I’d always loved YA fantasy for the immersive worlds but found its *echem* romantic limitations frustrating. Insert A Court of Thornes and Roses, which has enough world building to transport but not enough to get bogged down in and plenty of spice. I found my genre when I read these books.
Okay, I devoured these books—the work friend who recommended them looked distinctly alarmed and confused when I returned to her only a matter of days later to tell her how much I’d loved them.
Experience Feyre Archeron's journey all over again with the beautiful collector's edition of A Court of Thorns and Roses, the seductive first book in the #1 New York Times bestselling series by Sarah J. Maas, featuring a deluxe new package, an updated map, ribbon pull, and more!
When nineteen-year-old Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin-one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.

If you haven’t heard of Outlander, you must live under a rock, but I still had to add it to the list for the sheer number of hours this series has ripped me from my mundane existence into far-off lands and times.
History, magic, and epic romance, oh my! And lots of it! I admire how well Gabaldon weaves her story with historical events and folklore, but I also appreciate the sheer bulk of this series. If you escape into the lives of Claire and Jamie Fraser, you can remain there for quite a while.
Warning: unlike the other series included on this list, Outlander is not yet finished! Binge to your heart’s content but know that you might have to wait for the end of the story.
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The first book in Diana Gabaldon’s acclaimed Outlander saga, the basis for the Starz original series.
One of the top ten best-loved novels in America, as seen on PBS’s The Great American Read!
Unrivaled storytelling. Unforgettable characters. Rich historical detail. These are the hallmarks of Diana Gabaldon’s work. Her New York Times bestselling Outlander novels have earned the praise of critics and captured the hearts of millions of fans. Here is the story that started it all, introducing two remarkable characters, Claire Beauchamp Randall and Jamie Fraser, in a spellbinding novel of passion and…
A lesser-known series, these six books are sure to ferret you out of your life and into a romance on the American frontier.
Donati masterfully intertwines history and adventure in this tale that spans generations. This was one of those series that sucked me in completely and left me reeling when it ended—I wanted it to keep going and going. Unlike the other books mentioned on my list, the Wilderness series doesn’t contain magic or fantasy elements, but it’s certainly a worthy escape from your routine.
Join Elizabeth Middleton as she ventures away from her comfortable estate and into the woods to live among the Mohawk people! You won’t regret it.
Weaving a tapestry of fact and fiction, Sara Donati’s epic novel sweeps us into another time and place . . . and into a breathtaking story of love and survival in a land of savage beauty.
It is December of 1792. Elizabeth Middleton leaves her comfortable English estate to join her family in a remote New York mountain village. It is a place unlike any she has ever experienced. And she meets a man unlike any she has ever encountered—a white man dressed like a Native American: Nathaniel Bonner, known to the Mohawk people as Between-Two-Lives. Determined to provide schooling…
